Adventure Retreat 2021

After 2 weeks of flooding rain in South Eastern Queensland, the skies opened up and the sun shone down for 4 glorious days. Perfect conditions for our latest SBF GETAWAY.

Day 1.

18 crew members arrived at our beautiful accommodation: Rolling Surf Resort, situated smack bang on the doorstep of Kings Beach, Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast.

After people had settled in, it was time for a relaxing coastal walk to familiarise ourselves with the surroundings and ease our way into things…. well that was the plan anyway.

As it turned out, most of the Crew had arrived early and had been “easing their way in” by means of drinks in the downstairs cocktail bar.

Let the festivities begin!

Day 2.

The morning started with a pre dawn hike up Mt Ngungun, which is one of the Glasshouse Mountains. This was a great short hike and perfect for beginners (approx. 60mins – 2hrs depending on how long you want to spend taking photos).

At the summit
On top of the world
This cave is surprisingly very easy to miss – luckily I knew where to find it so we could get a photo.

Then it was a quick dash home for b’fast before some of us headed off for skydiving, some headed over to Lake Currumundi to watch the landing , and some headed up to Sunshine Plaza for some shopping.

What a buzz!!!

After that massive adrenaline rush, it was back to the resort for recovery and refuelling.

Others decided to head out for massages, manicures, new hairdos – the weekend was all about choosing the activities that suited them.

Be as adventurous or as zen as you choose.

Then before you knew it, it was time for our snorkelling trip to Mudjimba Island (Old Woman’s Island).

Heading out in the boat with Captain Kevy at the helm.

Even though visibility wasn’t great (thanks to all the flooding from the previous week) we still had an awesome time seeing lots of fish, sea turtles, wobbegong sharks and some even found an octopus!

We eventually finished our action packed day with a lovely stroll around the boardwalk to Bulcock Beach, for dinner at Drift Restaurant and Bar. Which was then followed by the twilight markets and an early night….

For me, and further celebrations for the others šŸ™‚

Can highly recommend the roast pumpkin salad with calamari.

Day 3.

Up at the crack of dawn again to get into a fitness session.

We enjoyed 40 mins of running, jumping, pushing, pulling, laughing… all whilst watching the sunrise over the ocean! It doesn’t get much better than that!

And in actual fact it didn’t, because following that we ran into the ocean for a body surfing competition…. however the results of that really aren’t relevant to my story.

At the council park gym at Kings Beach.

Next it was a quick breakfast before heading out to our high ropes adventure at TreeTop Challenge.

This was absolutely BRILLIANT!!! although very challenging. I’d highly recommend as a school holiday activity for adventurous kids … and adults… or as a team building exercise.

If you don’t like heights, this is not the place for you. Even the beginner course is pretty hairy.

The afternoon was spent either relaxing by the pool, down at the beach, napping, walking, reading … or drinking cocktails.

And then it was time for the traditional SBF Grandad trivia afternoon followed by an early picnic in the park.

WHAT AN AWESOME DAY!

Day 4.

Our final day started with stand up paddle boarding / kayaking over to Bribie Island as the sun was rising. It was absolutely magical!

On our paddle over.
Showing off some of our many SUPing skills.

Next up, it was back to the resort for some all important photos.

I simply wanted a group shot of all of us underwater in the resort pool – not too much to ask right?

Attempt 1 šŸ˜
For some, this was the biggest challenge of the whole weekend.

We finished the weekend reminiscing about our adventures over a delicious breakfast at Coffee Cat On Kings Beach.

The perfect finish to our SBF GETAWAY.

It was such a brilliant weekend, shared with a beautiful group of friends.

So many laughs, so many memories and I can’t wait to do it all over again….

I like to go to bed no later than 7.30pm but last night my son, Gus had an 8.40pm basketball game.

This throws my entire routine into chaos, not only for that night but also the day following.

Iā€™m sleep-deprived, I canā€™t focus on my work, my training suffers and Iā€™m just generally irritable….
