Member of The Month: Kerry

How long have you been a SBF member?

18 months

What’s one thing (either health related or not) that you learned in the last month?

I have found that having a plan and making a commitment to the plan means I am more than likely going to achieve the outcome.

I decided at the end of August that for September I would to the Long Run for Prostrate Cancer and the target they set was 72kms.

I felt I could do 100kms, so made a commitment to doing a walk/run every day. I clocked up 160kms in 30 days and the bonus was I helped raise much needed funds for men experiencing prostrate cancer or research into this disease.

Win Win I would say.

What’s a fun fact about you that not many people know?

I have weird hobbies. I breed and show dogs, I am a FCBD Bellydance Teacher and I am about to start bee keeping.

If you could choose anyone in the world as a mentor, who would it be?

I don’t think one mentor is enough.

Not one person is expert at everything or can answer it all so I prefer to have mentors that can share their real experiences.

However, as it was to choose one, I would like someone to help me with self forgiving, self worth, patience and being selfless and let things I can’t control go… so maybe the Dalai Lama.

What’s one habit / skill / goal that you’re currently working on?

Water……..I don’t always get the 8 cups down every day.

What’s a mistake you made early in your life that taught you a lot?

Giving up myself to become something else for someone else.

I wish I had learnt early in life that I should try to always be my authentic self as those who want to change who you are, may not be doing it for the right reasons or may change you into something you aren’t.

If you could only eat one SBF meal or snack for a whole month, what would it be?

That’s unfair…..but I do love SBF Lasagna.

4 week progress 🙂

What’s your favourite quote?

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.

What motivates you to stay healthy?

I am trying to be healthier as I age and to avoid Type 2 diabetes.

If you could be anyone else in the world for a day, who would it be and why?

Pink – cause she cares and is kick ar$e at the same time.

How will you spend your retirement?

Growing veggies and fruit, travelling when we can, hanging out with my best mate.

What’s the meaning of life?

Nothing super profound to share here but I try help where I can, share the burden, love those who love you and enjoy.

I can help you achieve your health and fitness goals too!

When I die I want …

One of my goals this month was to update our wills. Not something you want to be discussing all the time, but certainly an important task that needs to be undertaken. So we got all the documents sent out and there was a section to complete asking about funeral arrangements and any instructions you wanted

How to break a bad habit

When trying to break a bad habit, most people focus on the behaviour itself eg. how to stop smoking, eating lollies, sleeping through the alarm… I think we should be going a step further back and looking at the cues and triggers as to WHAT ENABLES US to participate in that behaviour. If we can
