Every International Women’s Day I feel it is my duty to impart wisdom on my daughters… or lecture them, as they call it.
So if you’d like to join the audience, please pull up a chair and make yourself comfortable.
“…Girls listen in as what I am about to tell you is important and you must remember every single detail.
1. You are perfect.
However I am your mother. In reality you are not perfect and neither is anyone else.
You should continually be looking toward self improvement. There is always so much more to learn, to experience and to contribute.
2. Don’t let people treat you poorly.
This is your problem to solve, not theirs.
Set boundaries early and never settle for less than your worth.
Take note though, this does not relate to the type of work you do, it relates to how you allow people to treat you.
No one is ever too good to clean dishes or pick up rubbish.
3. You are one complete individual.
You don’t need anyone or anything else.
For this reason make sure:
✔️ You are educated.
✔️ Have your own income.
✔️ You learn sufficient life skills to cope by yourself.
Once you have achieved these, then you may want to share your life with someone else.
4. Don’t take anything for granted.
Time, people, money, opportunities, they all come and go.
Nothing is forever so make the most of everything you’re blessed to have right now.
5. Give more.
It will make you happier.
6. Work harder (not longer, harder).
That will make you happier too.
7. Don’t waste your time searching for the meaning of life, I’ve already figured it out for you….
If you listen to scientists, the statistical probability of you being alive right now is 1 in 102,685,000,000,000,000,000 (there are more zeros but I think you get the point).
You hit the absolute jackpot just by being here and you should not take that lightly.
You owe the universe A LOT!!! So now it is your responsibility to leave this world in a better way than you entered it.
Think of it as the universal game of:
“Pay It Forward”
The universe doesn’t need more Hollywood stars, billionaires, Instagram models….
The universe needs more volunteers, visionaries, problem solvers, caretakers, hard workers and people with a passion.
We need kindness and we need to look after each other.
So….. over to you girls… and boys, this applies to everyone.”
